Words, words, words

Sara's now saying Mommy, Daddy, cracker, cookie, duck, doggie, more, bye-bye, ball, and Aidan!  She learned two words (cracker/cookie) in the last two days.

Aidan the other day said, while admiring my sunglasses, "I can't wait until my head grows up so I can wear sunglasses!"  Always good for a laugh.

Even funnier was yesterday when Sara tooted, her eyes lit up and she said, "Duck!"  I think she thought her toot sounded like a duck . . .

My class is over (whew!) and my summer will be spent with an independent study.  Much more flexible, and now I don't have to pay for day-care!  My aunt from Seattle and my mom are coming tomorrow for Mother's Day, so today we're cleaning house and cooking.  Matt has an interview next Thursday for a position as a prosecutor, and his last day at his current job is Wednesday.  Keep your fingers crossed for us.

Photoblog

So I've decided to do a photoblog to help me ease into the semi-professional photographer thing.  Check it out at: http://momentsintimeks.blogspot.com.  I'm going to try to upload photos at least three times a week, though they won't be just of my kiddos.  I'll try to keep personal info out, too, other than my name.

Life here is a bit shaky.  Matt was laid off about two weeks ago, and his last day of work is May 15.  That's a huge stress for us b/c we depend on his income.  He's busy applying for new positions all over the area, even 1-5 hours away, but with the economy in a slump, we're holding our breath.  He's not only looking for legal positions, but also anything that would utilize his college degree.  Pray for us.

Sara needs to grow, but otherwise she's doing great.  Had a double-ear infection earlier this week, but she's recovered.  Says a few words consistently--Mama, Daddy, Aidan, duck, book, more, bottle (for sippy cup).  And she cries--fussier than Aidan  ever was, but I think she just requires more sleep.  Aidan started soccer through the Y, and he's having a blast.  We go two nights a week (as if I needed more to do!), and he's dead tired by dinner.  He could barely hold his fork tonight.

I'm gdoing well.  Almost done with my class for the semester, which is great, since I've been swamped with paper writing.  I'll have 15 of 30 hours completed, with only two more classes, an independent study, and a thesis to go!  Teaching is both a joy and a burden.  I have one lazy-ass class that really irks me, but otherwise they're really meeting the increased expectations this year.  We (meaning my social studies counterpart and I) had them do a research paper on WWI, and though the entire process was painful, they were successful!  I just found out I get to go to a conference this summer in Nashville, so that's exciting!  Won a scholarship for my master's program, too, which will help pay for the class this semester (that I've almost finished but not paid the bill for!).

We also made a switch from the minivan (which got 18 miles per gallon) to a Honda Civic (40 mpg).  Since we both drive 30 miles each day, we were each spending $200 on gas per month.  Each!  Traded in the van, and I think we'll still come out ahead despite our increased car payment due to the savings on gas.  Regardless, the Civic has air conditioning, brakes that work, and headlights that don't flash, and it's an '05, so I'm happy.  Got an awesome interest rate on a loan, too.

So, there you have my update: new car, new job (hopefully), new sport, and new season.  Love spring.

If you haven't seen the movie Once, SEE IT!!  I'm obsessed.

Hair Woes

This is me procrastinating and not grading Romeo and Juliet essay tests . . .

Got Aidan's hair cut today, and he said it best when he looked at the picture on the bottom: "I look like a different boy."  We tried a new place, at Matt's request, and the results broke my heart.  I think b/c he looks older, more hip, less Aidan.  The stylist even wanted to put gel in his hair, but I stopped her.  He's THREE!  It's strange how much a haircut can change the way we look at a person.  I love his old barber, and even Matt agreed we need to go back.  (Matt didn't like how Ron cut Aidan's bangs, but at least he left him with some!  I hope the hair grows quickly!)

Okay, now back to grading.  Grades are due tomorrow at 8:00 a.m., and Aidan's in quiet time and Sara's asleep.  Prime time to work--no more goofing.  Had today off, though, so that was lovely!

P1010337

I put up letter cards around Sara's nursery a couple of weekends ago (see the ceiling border).  Is it still called a nursery  when she's almost one?  Gave lots of kisses tonight, of her own volition.  Celebrating her first b-day tomorrow with the family while at the same time celebrating my grandma's 90th b-day.  Multi-generational, and isn't that fantastic?  I envision some pictures . . .

Now, must  go make the cake, nacho dip, and macaroni and cheese (Sara's favorite).

Yay for President's Day (we have Monday off)!  I'll be grading (grades due Tuesday)  and writing my Scarlet Letter papers.  Ugh.

And how is it that I just NOW discovered Itunes radio?  Love the classical station "Whisperings: Solo Piano Radio," though it doesn't help me stay awake at night like I need to.  It's now only 7:34, and I'm falling asleep!  Must go cook.

Skiing was great!  Leaving here at 8:30, we got there at 9, which was perfect timing.  No lines for tickets or rentals, and the bunny hill was pretty empty.  I took him down between my legs twice, and after that he was on his own.  Didn't skip a beat from our first day in Michigan. Lots of "Woo Hoo!" screams, and he said later, "Mommy, you're a sweet girl.  You're a winner.  You're a hero.  I'm going to give you a hero party and make you a cake to eat."  Guess he liked it.  We skied until 10:30, and it was Aidan who was ready to quit.  Not a problem, though, b/c it was cheap and close-by!

Now it's 11:00 pm, and I don't know why I'm still up.  My eyes are burning, so I think I'm done for the night.  Got a new camera in the mail today, so you guys will have Shutterfly pictures soon!!
